CPR, saving lives

California Air National Guard Tech Sgt. David J. Chavez, an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew chief and Certified CPR instructor assigned to the 129th Maintenance Squadron, trains Airman 1st Class Jacob R. Montoya how to apply an automated external defibrillator (AED), at Moffett Federal Airfield, Calif., Feb. 10, 2013. Montoya calls “all clear” before initiating the AED to begin the simulated electrical shock to the patient. According to the American Red Cross, an AED is the only effective treatment for restoring an irregular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. (Air National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Kim E.
