MOFFETT FEDERAL AIRFIELD, Calif. --
Col Steven J. Butow, commander of the Air National Guard's 129th Rescue Wing near San Jose, Calif., released the following statement Monday following the announcement by NASA and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) that Planetary Ventures LLC, an affiliate of Google, Inc., won a competitive bid to lease Moffett Federal Airfield:
"Planetary Ventures and the 129th Rescue Wing represent the two largest tenants of the installation and will continue to partner with NASA Ames Research Center to retain Moffett's relevance to the community and the nation as a special use airfield."
According to GSA's plan, Moffett Federal Airfield will remain a federal airfield, and will continue to serve as home to the 129th Rescue Wing.
"We applaud the leadership of U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo, NASA, and GSA to secure Moffett as a federal airfield under this public-private partnership, allowing the 129th Rescue Wing to continue to carry out its vital lifesaving missions both home and abroad," added Col Butow. "This is a model for our nation, employing federal interagency partnerships with private entities, allowing us to continue our commitment as citizen-airmen to our community and our country.
